Making Sense Amdist Confusion

This is the first in a series of reflection and exposition pieces on the work of the NY Time's David Brooks. It is hoped that this will eventually become a forum for readers of his work to get together and think through the sometimes controversial but eminently reasonable David Brooks.

Blog Mission Statement

I've had a hard, fun life. I played farm league ball as a teen, I worked as a commodities correspondent from Germany at the ripe age of 27, I have done some of the deepest saltwater sunken goods recovery dives ever recorded. And, that's all before my 38th birthday.

Now, I write, I think, I dive and, occasionally, I work as a consultant. But I want to share my ideas. I want to explore the issues of the world. I want to shake things up. I'm definitely not a liberal and I'm not necesarily a conservative.

I'm my own man. Make no mistake. This isn't just a blog, this is my word. This is My Word at Large!

And, I'll be perfectly honest with everyone out there punching at keyboards and poking at Blackberries, the blogosphere stinks right now. Sure, it's great if you're discussing grooming techniques for Boston Terriers, but I want something with teeth.

A blog should have weight. It should be tough and unrelenting. I am.

I also want this to be a forum for exploring David Brooks, a columnist for the New York Times on Tuesday and Friday, and an unsung pundit who has more to say in one breath than most others do in entire articles. He has been an important figure in the political overground for years. His reasoned work is read by many and helps maintain something of a balance on the sometimes unbalanced New York Times editorial spread.
